About Us
Ear to the Ground Planning (EGP) is a Vancouver-based planning firm that provides a suite of multi-media and facilitation services for planning processes, organizations, and development projects. Our multi-media products have been used to integrate public voice into planning processes, educate people about sustainability, showcase public visions, celebrate community history, and encourage people to actively embrace sustainable living. We have developed a unique 7-step collaborative video production process that fosters innovation and creativity, ensuring a high degree of participation, transparency, and quality.
Our philosophy:
Ear to the Ground Planning uses multimedia to enable positive social change by empowering communities and promoting dialogue.
We believe that for planning and development projects to succeed there needs to be a high degree of public engagement around several important and at times very complex topics.
We view multi-media as a tool that can be used to create and enhance dialogue around a particular planning process or development project.
We pride ourselves in being effective facilitators that integrate a diversity of voices into our products through collaborative and participatory production processes.
We work closely with clients to understand the context and desired outcomes and orient our products to achieve defined goals and applications.
Our Team
Jonathan Frantz
Jonathan is the President of Ear to the Ground Planning. Jon’s expertise is in participatory video, community facilitation, teaching and mentoring, public engagement, community planning, and documentary film production. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Community and Regional Planning where he teaches digital video to graduate planning students, and conducts research. Jonathan has a BA in Economics and a MA in Planning from the University of British Columbia.
